Prepare your heart for this thought:
Sticks and Stones
Matthew 15:10-11
Then Jesus called to
the crowds and said "Listen to what I say and
try to understand: You are not made unholy by
eating non kosher food! It is what you say and
think that makes you unclean.
Do you know how easy it is to fool people? You can look
like a good person, you can look like you are interested in what others are
saying, but deep down you know who you are inside. You know if you are only
playing the "Christian" game.
Do you remember King David?
God said that he was a man after His own heart. David
was not perfect but David had perfect desire. What do you have?
Jesus is telling us in his words to listen and try to understand what he is
saying. He wants us to guard our thoughts and our words. Words have the power to
build up or to destroy. There is an old children's saying that says " sticks and
stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me". That is such a lie!
Words do hurt, they can cut to the soul and drain the life out of someone.
That's why Jesus warns us to be careful about what we say and think.
A bad
thought if entertained is only one step away from sin. In order to keep your
mind clean you must fill your thoughts with the word of God. I can guarantee
that if your mind is on Jesus Christ and all that he has done for you then you
won't have room for idol, negative thoughts.
You can fool people but you
can not fool God. Don't
just play church. Jesus wasn't playing when he spilled his blood on the cross
for you. His blood is life. It covers us with salvation so that we can be
forgiven for those words that we used to kill another persons joy. If someone is
happy, be happy for them. If they are sad be a giver of encouragement.
